FAQ

How do I import my videos?
Open the Library tab, tap + next to Source folders, and pick the folder with your media in Files (on your device or in iCloud Drive). Starting in 1.1, the app scans your folders when it opens and whenever iCloud changes, and you can pull to refresh too.
What is CARSCHOOL.md?
Starting in 1.1, every source folder can have a short description: what’s in it, who it’s for, and how it should play. Tap ⓘ next to the folder in the Library to see it. The app can draft it on device, and you can edit it. It is saved as a plain CARSCHOOL.md text file inside the folder, so you can also edit it on a computer or have an assistant write it following the spec. CarSchool Folder Spec →
Why does the app ask before recognizing new files?
Scanning finds new files; recognition creates tags and descriptions. Local text recognition sends no provider request; own-account recognition may send filenames, relative paths, metadata and existing descriptions. A recognition confirmation is not a substitute for complete data-sharing permission. Reviewed build 12 has no established affirmative consent control covering every AI entry point; a later version is planned to disclose data and provider and obtain consent before transmission, and is not yet released.
Why does a video say the folder is missing?
iOS occasionally revokes folder access after the folder is moved or renamed. Open Library and tap the folder marked “Folder missing” to re-select it — playlists and progress are kept.
Can it play without internet?
Yes. Open a playlist and use “Save offline” to copy everything onto the device first.
How do local processing and my own key differ?
Local playback needs no API key. Reviewed build 12 also supports local text planning, metadata recognition and description drafting without a key; voice is not exclusive to the own-account route. Own-account processing sends relevant text, filenames, relative paths and descriptions directly to the provider; OpenAI voice also sends your prompt recording. The app is free; your provider may charge your account for API usage.
AirPlay shows a black screen on my TV
Some TVs don't support direct AirPlay video from local files. Open Control Center and use Screen Mirroring instead — the app will also show this hint automatically.
Which versions have the new privacy controls?
As of October 26, 2026, the public version is 1.1.1 (build 14, released October 10, 2026). 1.1.1 discloses data and provider and obtains consent before AI transmission, without treating old keys as consent; offers typed input rather than remote recognition when local speech is unsupported; sets store:false for OpenAI Responses; and temporarily removes Gemini selection and settings entry points and prevents requests from saved Gemini configurations. Devices still on 1.1 or earlier do not have these controls; please update to 1.1.1.
Is local voice always offline?
Reviewed build 12 enforces on-device speech only where supported; otherwise Apple service processing is possible. Select the local route and type to avoid transmitting a recording for transcription. Test-version descriptions do not establish guarantees for the earlier public version 1.1; starting with 1.1.1, unsupported on-device recognition falls back to typed input rather than remote recognition.
How can I stop AI requests or delete transmitted data?
Select the local route and remove saved keys to stop future provider AI requests; system permissions control microphone and speech recognition. Stopping or deleting in the app does not erase existing provider records, iCloud copies or backups. Manage those with the relevant provider or storage account. Neither your own key nor store:false guarantees zero retention.
Does 1.1.1 offer Gemini?
No. 1.1.1 (build 14, released October 10, 2026) temporarily removes Gemini selection and settings entry points and prevents requests from saved Gemini configurations. Older Gemini data-flow descriptions remain relevant to older versions. Updating this website does not disable entry points in installed older versions or erase provider records. Older-version users can choose local processing and remove their Gemini key to stop future Gemini requests.
