Changelog

1.2 — Coming soon

  • My wife switched to an iPhone Duo, so CarSchool had to learn to fold. Closed, it works like any iPhone. Open it up and the tab bar tucks into the right edge, the Play tab puts video and controls next to the queue, and Lists spreads into two columns.
  • Favorite just a part of a file: set a start and end on long media and save it as a named clip. One file can have several clips.
  • Each playlist entry can have its own start/end range and play count, and list durations reflect what actually plays.
  • Big libraries (a dozen folders, thousands of files) no longer stutter: switching tabs, opening Add Videos, and background scans are all much lighter.
  • Automatic rescans are calmer: returning to the app no longer rescans every time, and iCloud folders only rescan when files are added, removed, or renamed. New files still show up when you open Library or refresh a source.

1.1.1 — 2026-10-10

  • Before anything goes to an AI provider, the app tells you what it will send and to whom, and waits for your OK. A key you saved earlier doesn't count as consent. Change your mind and it cancels the request in flight.
  • Voice input uses on-device recognition only. If this device can't do that, you get a text field instead of a quiet switch to online recognition.
  • Requests on your own OpenAI account now send store:false.
  • The Gemini route is gone for now. Gemini settings saved earlier are never used to send requests.

1.1 — 2026-09-18

  • Every source folder can now have a short description: what's in it, who it's for, and how it should play. Write it yourself, or let the app draft one for you. It's saved as a CARSCHOOL.md file inside the folder, so you can edit it on your computer too, and it syncs across your devices.
  • No more refreshing by hand after you add videos. The app checks your folders when it opens and whenever iCloud changes, and new files show up at the top of the Library, ready to recognize with a tap.
  • Tap ⓘ next to a source folder to see how it's doing, refresh it, or recognize it again.
  • Saving a playlist for offline could sometimes get stuck. That's fixed: you'll see progress now, and you can cancel anytime.

1.0.2 — 2026-09-06

  • The Library now works like the Files app: tap into folders one level at a time, with a path at the top to jump back up.
  • Search got smarter. Look things up by file or folder name, or just say it the way you'd say it, like "week 3 geography songs". You can also hold the mic and speak. Every video now shows its length.
  • Favorites is now a real playlist you can play from the top.
  • Short songs can repeat 2 to 10 times in a row, which is great for memory work.
  • Making a playlist by hand has been redone: name it and pick its folder first, then choose videos, grouped by subfolder and with nothing pre-selected.
  • Tapping a video in the Library opens a quick preview you can simply close.
  • Fixed rows that couldn't be removed from a playlist, and playlists now keep track of files that were moved to another folder or renamed.
